JANE IREDALE SUPPORTS AID FOR AIDS

Jane Iredale announced it will serve as the official cosmetic sponsor for Spa Day 2008 for the fifth consecutive year. Spa Day is a national one-day pampering and fundraising event that raises money for Aid for AIDS, an organization that benefits women and children living with HIV/AIDS. On Nov. 20, participating spas and salons from across the country will donate 20 percent or more of their proceeds to Aid for AIDS. In addition, actress Jennie Garth will serve as the honorary chair for Spa Day and will play a role in garnering attention for this cause. Spas interested in becoming a Spa Day partner can visit www.spaday.org for more information.

Aveda Puts a Cap on Plastics

Aveda launched the first-ever Caps Recycling Program in the U.S., a project that creates new caps out of 100-percent recycled caps. This helps save marine life by reducing the number of caps littering beaches and oceans. "Aveda's Caps Recycling Program was created to help combat the devastating effects of plastic cap pollution and to increase awareness around this critical issue," says Chuck Bennett, vice president of Earth and Community Care for Aveda. "Recycling caps is a meaningful form of environmental activism. Every cap we prevent from becoming trash is one less piece of plastic in the mouth of a baby seal, penguin, or turtle." Aveda's network of spas and stores, in partnership with community schools nationwide, are asked to collect water, soda, detergent, and shampoo plastic bottle caps to be donated to the Aveda Caps Recycling Program, which has brought in more than 27,000 pounds of plastic to date.

Terralina Turns Trash into Treasure

Terralina's holiday packaging for 2008, a green and purple open square box, is made from 100-percent post-consumer recycled grocery bags that were collected from the streets of Delhi, India. In India, these grocery bags often clog drainage systems during the rainy seasons and pose a health hazard. In addition to leaving streets cleaner, the collection of these bags has also created jobs for local women in the area who find it hard to hold a full-time job while watching after their children. All bags go through a non-toxic cleaning method and are stripped and pressed to create color without additional dyes or inks.
